Year 2020 saw Canada become one of the few countries to allow consumption of psychedelic mushrooms to people who have depression and other mental illnesses. Psilocybin is a psychoactive ingredient in magic mushrooms, which was previously illegal to produce, possess, and sell in Canada, with the exception of approved research.

Law requires patients seeking a prescription for magic mushrooms from a practitioner to disclose any other acquisitions of drugs in Schedule I, II, III, or IV, along with any prescriptions received for such substances in the past 30 days.

Unauthorised possession, import, export, sales, and trafficking of magic mushrooms are still punishable by law. 

Digital dispensaries sell a variety of mushroom products to Canadians over 19 years of age, with or without a medical prescription, however, the legitimacy of these dispensaries need to be taken into consideration before making any transaction. Although authorities know about these dispensaries, their limited resources have been directed toward criminal activities involving more damaging substances.
