Many people often either confuse LSD and Shrooms, or simply believe that they are very similar. While both substances are great hallucinogens that can change what we are seeing and how we perceive that is going on around us, they are very different. The source of both substances is very different and the impact that the substance can have on a person taking them is different, leading to contrasting experiences.
LSD
LSD stands for lysergic acid diethyl amide and is a fully synthetic creation. In was created initially.in Switzerland in the 1930s and originally came as a derivative of the ergot fungus. Ergot can be found on rye and grains and it can he deadly if ingested.
Appearance wise LSD has a crystalline structure and is almost always white. It does not have a strong smell or taste. Compared to alternative drugs, it has a higher potency level with a function dose of the substance being invisible to the human eye. Usually it is measured in micro grams, and a lot does not need to be absorbed to start seeing the effects. LSD is most commonly found suspended in a solution of alcohol, and this is the main way of taking the substance. The alcohol solution is put into a tray, and paper made up of many small squares is dipped into the mixture, soaking up the substance. The alcohol then evaporated as part of the drying process, leaving only the LSD crystals on the paper. These small paper squares are then placed on the tongue and allowed to melt to intake the LSD.
Magic Mushrooms (Shrooms)
Shrooms is a commonly used nickname for Magic Mushrooms, which have many different species. The most common mushrooms used for their psychedelic features are from either the Psilocybe or Amanita specifies. Both these species contain compounds like psilocybin that can cause powerful hallucinations. One of the main differences between shrooms as LSD is that shrooms are an entirely naturally occurring compound compared to LSD which needs to be manufactured.
Many different types of shrooms share a common appearance, with many looking very unassuming. Others will have coloured caps or spots on them and are more vibrant. Searching for shrooms can be difficult as some can be poisonous to the human body.
The Impact of Each Substance
Users of LSD often experience extremely intense auditory and visual hallucinations, with some experiencing delusions. These hallucinations usually occur after an hour of taking LSD as this is when it is absorbed into the system. A trip on LSD can last for between eight and twelve hours and sometimes even longer if the tablets are taken in gel form.
Shrooms however are not known for their hallucinations. Instead they simply alter an individual’s perception of reality and the people around them. The mushrooms, most commonly taken in tea cam begin to take effect quicker than LSD after around 30 minutes. The trip generally lasts less time, between four and six hours. However, again there have been reports of the effects lasting longer than this.
There are some similarities between the effects however, with both substances raising body temperature and increasing blood pressure. Both can leave a person feeling euphoric and positive. However, both can have adverse effects if taken too often or in large doses such as conclusion to anxiety and paranoia.
